The Zenana Stud Earring

Alongside with fabulous design (architecture, jewellery, clothes, food, gardens), The Mughals also introduced certain customs that were not the norm in India. One such custom was ‘Zenana’ – whereby women especially of royal households lived in private quarters, often shielded from the public eye. If in public they would be covered…palaces, mosques and even temples were formed to cater around this custom, whereby women would view the world through intricately decorated windows and doors….

The zenana remained a custom for centuries, women embraced it….it gave them a sense of identity, grandeur, dignity, status…..

Gold plated on silver.
